Adjusting the angle of penetration for more pleasure
We all know moving our hips changes how penetration feels. But really knowing which hip angles change what parts of vagina and clit pressure—that’s powerful. It gives us more options and more control over pleasure, in any position. Angles were never this fun in geometry class!

With thrusting penetration, there’s motion that’s happening anyway. And small angle adjustments can put sweet spots like the clit or g-region right in the path of all the motion and friction. This can mean the difference between ‘not doing anything for me’ and ‘wow’ with every thrust. And these angles work in just about any position.
“It was kind of a breakthrough realizing when I adjust my hips even a little bit, his penis would rub totally different spots.”
“I had always thought having sex just didn’t feel good for me and there was nothing I could do about it. Then we discovered putting a pillow underneath my bum which tilts me up :)”
“I find the best feeling comes from penetration that seems to be hitting a wall/barrier. My favorite is to angle my hips to a 45 degree angle when on the bottom.”

The distance between the clitoris and the vaginal opening varies a lot from woman to woman. And that distance is highly correlated to whether or not a woman has orgasms from penetration alone—only 18% do. But by tilting her hips so her clit is closer to the base of the toy/penis, a woman can increase the pleasure of every thrust. Partners can do this, too, by angling the toy/penis so that its base touches her clit.
An easy way to get this angle is to think of arching the back. You can try it now - as you arch your back, you’ll feel your pelvis tilt a bit to compensate.
A very popular way to get this angle is a pillow under the arch of the back (not under the butt). Once the pillow is there, you can forget about it and no further attention is required. Easy!
Another way is to hang the butt off the edge of the bed slightly, with a partner standing so the penis/toy approaches the vagina from above, putting the clit right in the way.
Lying on her back with legs extended and closed together with the partner on top, the penis/toy has to nudge the clit with each stroke as it passes by. This one is especially effective because all other roads to the vagina are blocked except for Clit Avenue.
“My clit doesn’t get any love from a penis going in unless I tilt my butt so the penis is coming from above and goes by my clit with each stroke.”
“I thought I just couldn’t have orgasms from penetrative sex because my clit was way far above my vagina. I gave up on that for many years. Then I found a workaround - I can actually get the clit involved by pushing my clit downward so the penis rubs the bottom of it.”
“Arching my back so my lower body goes lower is best for me. I am putting pressure on my clit against their abdomen when I do this, which brings the orgasm faster.”

Many women sometimes love pressure against the top of the vagina. 48% feel a G-region there. To direct the pressure up top, women tilt their hips so the clit moves further from the base of the penis or toy. A partner can do this, too: just approach from lower (further from the clit) so the penis/toy is aimed at the front/top wall of the vagina.
Facing up, a pillow under the butt creates this angle effortlessly. Pillows are convenient and fun because you can pile more and more of them or use harder ones to get just the right height and angle.
Tucking your butt forward also happens when you round your back - kind of like if you were trying to make your nipples approach your belly button.
This one is lying on the belly with legs together, straight out and the partner lying on top. This way, the angle of the penis or strap-on can only really enter from a back to front angle that puts pressure on the top wall.
“I like to have something to grab like a headboard so I can sort of pull myself and really tilt my vagina and hips to get the pressure against my insides instead of just getting the in-and-out feeling.”
“I can do this when I’m on top, too. I love lowering myself onto a penis and just holding it deep inside me while I lean back a little. This adds more stimulation on my front vaginal wall.”
“I wish someone would have told me about this sooner! Putting a pillow under my butt makes the penis rub against the top wall of my vagina. The difference in pleasure is night and day.”

Many women have sensitive, feel-good areas on the side walls. And many just like to change up the pressure to sometimes rub the sides for a while. Angle the penis or toy toward one side by tilting the hips in the opposite direction. For more pressure on the top left, tilt the hips down and right. Or, think of the vagina as a clock—for more pressure at 9 o’clock, just tilts the hips toward 3 o’clock.
When a woman’s riding on top, she or the partner can lean to one side so the penis/toy presses the opposite side.
Many women love to be on their backs with one leg up in the air—the partner can even hold it in their elbow or over their shoulder. For more pressure on the right wall, lift the left leg up; for more on the left wall, lift the right leg. To make it more intense, bring the raised leg across the body.
Pillows work to direct penetration to the sides, too! Just put one under the opposite butt cheek in on-the-back positions.
“It used to be awkward for me because the penetration I like best - which is pressure against the shallow side walls - isn’t what gets my husband off. We figured out that if we just keep doing my way, then I can come and after that, whatever he does feels good!”
“We used to get it just perfect and then he’d totally shift angles. So when I feel that amazing perfect pressure, I say, 'please freeze the angle!' and he gets that means if we keep doing it just like that, I’ll come.”
“I usually say, ‘more on the right’ and since we figured it out, he gets it. We know that means for him to move to his right (my left) so his penis presses against my right side.”
